Early Childhood Educators Should Be Part of The Search Committee For Massachusetts Next EEC Commissioner

Last week we learned that Massachusetts Commissioner of Early Education and Care Tom Weber was stepping down in June.

It was also announced “ The Board of Early Education and Care, led by Chair Nonie Lesaux, will launch a search to identify a successor immediately.”

The Board of Early Education and Care should involve early childhood educators from each of the six EEC Regions in Massachusetts as part of the search process. The board should put out a call to find early educators interested in being part of the process and either select them via lottery or by a vetting process.  Prospective commissioner candidates should be interviewed by the current early educators selected to be part of the process who can then submit their thoughts and recommendations to The Board of Early Education and Care as they make their decision.
